What I Wore in Paris

I’m really bad at this #OOTD thing.  Well at least this time I got a pretty awesome backdrop (FYI – The Louvre).  I wore some beaut outfits in Paris, and the only full-length one I’ve really captured is … well let’s call it ‘Skater Girl Chic’.

This was very much a travel comfort based outfit option, and the clothes aren’t really from anywhere exciting.  Ah well, here you go anyway!

Sunglasses – Espirit at TK Maxx

Shirt – Lowes (Australia)

Black Vest – Primark

Geometric Necklace – Topshop

Jeans – BDG at Urban Outfitters

Trainers – Vans

So there you have it!  What I wore in Paris.  Aurevoir!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Look

So last weekend I was invited to a good friend of mine’s belated 21st birthday party, with the theme ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.  At first, Boyfriend and I thought we’d go all out with togas, pink body paint and glitter but when we discovered we were heading out on the town afterwards, we thought better of it.  Instead, I opted for this look, and thought I’d tell you guys about how I achieved it.

Image

The dress is from TK Maxx, and has always been a summer favourite of mine.  (I’m also wearing it in this post: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2012/04/07/the-day-i-turned-20/).  I thought it suited the brief as it’s flowery, floaty and ethereal – not to mention super comfy.  I teamed this up with a £2 crown from Hobbycraft (the final idea ended that Boyfriend and I were King and Queen of the forest) and lots of fake Hobbycraft flowers.  Using garden twine I wrapped real ivy from my Mum and Dad’s garden around it to make a sash, with the fake flowers.  I also wrapped the fake flowers around a clubbing bag from TK Maxx and my favourite gold sandals from Dune.  And Voila!

ImageMy makeup for the look is very subtle, as I wanted my hair and outfit to do the talking.  All I added (to my standard ‘clubby’ makeup) was liquid eyeliner and gold eyeshadow.  I felt this look was all about the hair!  (You can read about my hair here: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2013/01/23/hair-story/)  I have wavy to curly hair anyway, so this look was created with hair mousse, curling tongs, some braids and a whole lotta hairspray.

There you have it!  My Midsummer Night’s Dream Look.  I do love a good costume party, anyone got any coming up I can come to?  Please and thankyou.  Tarah!

Halloween Trash Fash

Hey Kids!  Now, I’m not a massive supporter of Halloween.  To be honest, I think the whole pretense is a bit ridiculous.  But despite this, it IS a fantastic opportunity for a cheeky dress up, which we all know how much I love.  So I thought I would share with you some of my fancy dress costumes and outfits over the last couple of years, not just for Halloween .. but any opportunity really!  Here goes:

Can you tell who we are?!  This was actually taken on Saturday, when we had a Halloween House Party at Uni.  Velma on the left, followed by Shaggy and Scooby (who is actually boyfriend .. haha!), Fred and myself as Velma!  The wig, dress, cuff and neck tie were from Ebay at just £20, not bad!  The belt was New Look, the tights I found in TK Maxx and the boots are goodness knows how old from … Shoe Zone!  Aha.  Halloween doesn’t just have to be scary, you can have ALOT of fun with it.

This is me being, believe it or not, Sweeney Todd, although I couldn’t find a picture of me with my massive scissors.  The apron is actually from Ann Summers (!) and I think the fishnets were just Primark.  Top it off with some £1 fake blood and face paint = scary!  I honestly think you could probably be zombiefied/dead/scary in almost anything with some fake blood … so get creative!

This was last Halloween.  The top picture is me being … a devil.  Original right?!  The dress was just £8 from the Primark lingerie section and the horns/tail were cheap too.  The bottom picture shows me  in my devil makeup.  The red eye lashes were about 50pence from a fancy dress shop, coupled with some red lippie .. sorted.

What will you be rocking this Halloween?!

Party Life: Fashion

So, I think I intended to tell you about Southampton night life, but I’m going to leave that for the Southampton specific post.  Here’s some of my party life fashion moments.   I don’t know HOW many times you have seen this outfit, but this is seriously how fantastically versatile it is!  Top from Topshop, Culottes from Urban Outfitters – bish bash bosh!  This is a pretty standard summer clubbing outfit for me.  Something that doesn’t show too much leg, but that doesn’t need tights and will show off my waist.  FYI this was taken in Jesters, which I’m sure you will hear more about in the Southampton post.   So you can only see half this outfit, but it’s still a goodun.  The statement necklace is from East and the top is actually a full on body corset that I needed for dance, from Florence and Fred.  The high waisted shorts are TK Maxx.  Every single outfit I wear clubbing is with flats.  I would love to be able to wear heels, but I just can’t.  How can I do the worm in heels eh?!  Ah, a heels shot!  However, I did only wear the heels for pre-drinking to get me in the mood, then it was straight into flats before heading out the door.  The boob tube and the heels are New Look and the high waisted shorts are River Island.  High waisted shorts are pretty much a clubbing staple for me.  They’re comfortable, suck in your tum and mean you can do the worm without flashing your panties.  Win.

A slightly more official looking photo.  This was for a Dinner Dance for my Performing Arts Society at Uni.  The dress was a fiver in TK Maxx, the heels (I sat down ALL night, hurrah!) are Schuh and the blazer was borrowed from my housemate.  Boyfriend wears .. Topman.

Karaoke buzz!  This was for a night out in Carlisle which was just great fun.  The top is TK Maxx and the high waisted shorts (seeing a pattern here?!) are Topshop.

So there’s a quick round up of Party Life fashion – stay tuned to hear more about Soton nightlife!

Thai Lookbook

Well hello there followers!  Gosh, hasn’t it been a while?!  Since we last met I’ve been gallivanting around Thailand for a month!  Here are some snaps of outfits I wore:  (Please bear in mind I backpacked, BACKPACKED, around Thailand with 5/6 outfits. plus various bits and bobs I purchased along the way.  Fashion wise, this holiday really was all about making the best out of what I had!)

This is me at the Grand Palace (one of the greatest Thai temples) in Bangkok.  Because of all the Buddhism, you have to be very respectful and cover your shoulders and knees whenever you are around temples, hence the getup!  Here, my sunglasses are from Urban Outfitters, my jumper is Levi’s and the fisherman pants are from India.  And you can never go wrong with Converse on a city break!

Quite the contrast!  This is much more of a beach holiday fashion moment than temple hopper, taken in our (very messy, apologies) hotel room in Koh Samui, a Southern Thai Island.  The necklace is from a Thai market, the boob tube is New Look whilst the shorts are Topshop.

Again, taken in Koh Samui.  Excuse the pose, quite unsure what’s going on there.  This is one of the many Thai Dye creations I purchased in Thailand.  I’m not actually sure if tye dye is specifically from Thailand, but it sounds better to say that it is, aha!  This beauty cost the equivalent of about £7, bargain!

Excuse the geeky, overexcited pose.  I was most excited on our first night on the Khao San road where we were staying in Bangkok.  The maxi dress is from TK Maxx and the bag is from Nica at Debenhams.  I would seriously recommend a good maxi dress to anybody travelling lightly.  It looks great dressed up of an evening, or relaxed with converse for day time sightseeing.

A cheeky shot snapped at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (basically, lots of crazy sculptures).  Again, a trusty New Look boob tube piled with my favourite Urban Outfitters culottes.

Shut up about the face, boyfriend must have said something funny!  Here, I’m standing at the foot of the Doi Suthep Temple which is a temple in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand.  Again, trust Urban Outfitters providing me with a top, Indian fisherman pants, and my gorgeous gold USC sandals that unfortunately broke in Phuket and had to be chucked, boo!

An evening out in Koh Samui, with another Thai dye lovely from Thailand (LOL), coming in at approximately £7 – bargain!

What Happened In May

So a couple of weeks ago I posted about what had happened in May so far, me thinking that a plethora of things would happen between then and now, but alas, I was wrong.  A heatwave happened.  And with heatwaves come BBQs, bikinis and beer.  Nothing to complain about mind you, just not much to blog about.  So here’s a snappy round up of the second half of may.

1)  BBQ Season!  Here’s a photo of me looking pretty unimpressed caught off guard with my king prawn skewers.  Absolutely delicious.  Chop up two or three cloves of garlic and melt up about a quarter of a tub of butter in a sauce pan then stir together and pour over king prawns in a bowl.  Make sure that all the prawns are coated in the garlic butter marinade and pop in the fridge for an hour.  Then stick them on some skewers and BBQ them for ten to fifteen minutes.  Perfect.  I’m wearing crop bandeau from New Look and maxi skirt from BooHoo.

2)  And exams have ended!  Which means plenty of wild nights out and about, including those where you carry chairs back at three in the morning.  Standard student fun.

3)  Sorry for being soppy, but I kind of love this picture of me and the boy.  I’m wearing a TK Maxx dress and his shirt is from Topman.  This weekend we’re celebrating our 18 month anniversary (all together now, awwwwwwwww) by road tripping to Newquay for surfing and the Diamond Jubilee.  Going to be lush!

4)  More cooking!  I don’t know what’s come over me.  Here is a homemade pizza that I  produced as procrastination one day.  From scratch!  We made the dough (with a pre mix pack but come on!), added mozzarella and pizza sauce, chorizo, salami and olives.  And did I mention the cheese string stuffed crust?!  Delicious.

5)  With procrastination, has come the arrival of a new card game; S***Head.  Don’t ask me why it’s called that, I really don’t know.  All I know is that it’s one of the most fun card games I have ever played and we play it pretty much all the time.  Google it.

6)  And this pic is just another garden shot.  Story of our freaking lives.

Colourblind Reflection

If you’re reading this, stop.  Wait until the weather gets rubbish again and read it then.  I’m only writing this because I’m burning up in the delicious weather.  It’s been absolutely beautiful.  I’ve finished all my exams and have nothing to do except drink cider and sit in the sun all day.  So if you’re reading this, stop, go outside and read a book and get some sun on your face, and read it later when the sun goes down and the day is done.

I’ve been in a bikini the last few days, and as much as I love you all, won’t subject you to pictures of that!  Here’s what I wore a few days ago for afternoon tea with boyfriend’s Aunt and Uncle.  I got ready VERY quickly and as the title suggests, on reflection I was perhaps slightly colourblind in deciding what to wear!  But here it is anyway:

Cardigan – Urban Outfitters     Top – Asos     Jeans – TK Maxx     Shoes-New Look

A close up of my jeans and shoes.  I absolutely love these jeans.  SO comfy and different from standard skinnies.  And my new shoes!  These are actually heeled wedges but you can’t really see from this angle.  I’ve bought them for the two weddings I’ve got coming up over the next two weeks so have been wearing them out and about just to break them in.

A close up of my top half.

A close up of my face.  It’s only in this picture I’ve seen how much my purple dip dye has washed out, boo!  I’m wearing MAC foundation, Rimmel blusher, NO7 nude lipstick and MAC mascara.

Now get out in that sun!
