Gonna Party Like .. it’s 2012

In a few short hours it won’t be 2012 anymore!  Usually I’m one to get sad and emotional about that, I’m not a massive fan of New Years Eve and the concept of time terrifies me but nevertheless I have decided to embrace it by looking over the highlights of my year and looking forward to a bright 2013.

So, in 2012 I:

  • Rebranded my blog!  ‘BellasBits’ was born.
  • Competed in dance competitions around the country, falling back in love with music and movement and getting to know some of my squad better.
  • Visited the Ideal Home Show and loved it, bring on 2013!
  • Saw Steps and The Throne at the 02, as well as climbing over it!
  • Went on some amazing travels: Amsterdam, Thailand, Berlin, Edinburgh, Bruges.
  • Went on my first real road trip down to Cornwall, surfing included!
  • Learned to like Sauvingnon Blanc (but not how to spell it ..) – shocker!
  • Became instaobsessed.
  • Learnt how to BBQ like a pro.
  • Played ‘Pointless’ .. for real!
  • Learned to love myself as my friends, family and amazing boyfriend all love me.

2012 has been a very special year for me.  I’ve worked incredibly hard, as I will continue to do so, I’ve learnt alot about myself and will continue to better myself, I’ve experienced and loved every day to the full, and will continue to do so, as 2013 dawns and every year after that.  2012 has also been a very special year for our country.  I know we’ve been hearing/seeing/reading about this absolutely everywhere so I won’t go into it to much, but felt like it deserved a mention (Go Brits, woo.).  So as 2013 dawns, I am looking to the future and what I wish to achieve.  I’ve got lots of exciting plans for Bellas Bits in 2013 so stick around, and we can continue this incredible journey they call ‘life’ together.  And please say hello!  I would really love to get to know you all better :)

Happy New Year!

What Happened In June

Now, I know June isn’t officially over, but as of tomorrow, yes, TOMORROW, I am departing to Thailand for a month!  So here’s what I’ve been up to.

1)  Cornwall!  As I blogged about, road trip with the boyfriend for sun, sea, sand and surfing.

2)  As exams ended at Uni, the nights out began!  Here’s a rare official snap of us (we never normally go to places nice enough to have an in house photographer) at a place called Orange Rooms in Southampton.  I’m on the right wearing an Orange Bodycon Dress from Topshop.

3)  More nights out!  But this was actually our last ever night out as a house, wah!  I’ve had such an amazing year living there and will genuinely miss everyone so much.  I’m bottom right wearing top – Topshop and shorts – Urban Outfitters.

4)  Some more cheeky nail art.  I couldn’t decide which colour, so I went for both!

5)  Ah, Wedding Season.  I’ve been to two weddings in the last two weeks and this has been my outfit for both of them (give me a break, completely different ends of the country, completely different sets of people and I AM a poor student on a budget!).  The dress is Miss Selfridge and the heels are New Look.

6)  Here’s a family snap from my cousin’s Wedding in Carlisle on Saturday.  This is more or less everyone from my Dad’s side of the family, love this picture.

7)  A picture from the Wedding the week before, they had a photo booth!  Best idea.

8)  The morning after my cousin’s Wedding.  We found half the buffet in our bedroom!

Anyway, I’ll try and blog again before we fly off but if not, love and leave!

No Regrets, Just Cornish Love

So last week boyfriend and I roadtripped to Cornwall for just under a week.  It was absolutely beautiful.  After what was basically a solid month of beer and BBQ, I really needed to get out of the city and feel some fresh sea air.  Armed with N-Dubz Greatest Hits (what more do you need?!) we hit the road and didn’t look back.  Lush.  Snaps and stories.

We stopped over in Bournemouth for the night just to break up the journey a bit.  I hadn’t been for years and boyfriend had never so it was lovely.  We didn’t have very long there but lastminute.com did us incredibly well with a good hotel deal, right on the sea front.  The first picture shows our backpacks for Thailand that we trial runned on this trip.  I coped surprisingly well!  And Noel Edmunds agrees.  We also ate in Harry Ramsden’s!  Not the overpriced restaurant with the gorgeous views, the very well priced cafe section with equally gorgeous views.  Haddock and smoked cheese fishcake ftw.  And beautiful beach huts!  Boyfriend got so angry at me strolling up and down snapping these!  I’ve decided that if I had one, it would be the purple one.

After Bournemouth, we drove the 3/4 hours to Newquay where we spent two nights in a B and B.  And whilst we were there, we had a surf lesson!  Hilarious.  I’ve surfed before, but not for years as had boyfriend but we had a private lesson and at the end we were standing up, so we did very well.  We had a great time going in the numerous pubs and arcades (see pool and dance machine), drinking wine and eating Indian food on the beach (so odd!)  FYI, dance machine/wine outfit:  Sunglasses – Urban Outfitters     Top – Primark     Shorts – Urban Outfitters     Necklace – Amsterdam

And here’s some snaps of some beautiful beaches in both Newquay and Polzeath :)  Gorgeous.

The next week is pretty hectic for me.  A week tomorrow boyfriend and I head off for our month in Thailand so LOTS to do!  Blog soon :)

Surf Wishlist

So I’m currently in Cornwall.  Surfing, in Cornwall.  Cue waves of ‘Let’s move to Cornwall!’, ‘I’m gonna bleach my hair!’, ‘Let’s buy a surfboard!’.  At the end of the day I just need to say, Bella, No.  You are not a surfer chick, your boyfriend is not a surfer dude, you are not cool, you cannot surf and you will never be able to do a barrell.  Sad but true.  But the girl can dream.

1)  I don’t really need these Animal trainers.  I don’t even really like these.  But if I had to buy a pair of surfy style shoes, these would be them.  Looking through all the surfy clothes online, I felt like I needed some shoes on a list.  A cute colour, but that’s it.

2)  These are some ‘pants’ from Ripcurl.  They would be great on Summer evenings with a tight cardy and scarf.  Not sure about the shoes though.

3)   I think this Hurley dress is beautiful.  The colours are gorgeous.  What gets me about surfy fashion websites (because before now, I’ve never really explored them)  is the sincere lack of prices.  I”m guessing this would be from £50 to $60.

4)  Another beaut from Hurley.  Just gorgeous patchwork style boardies, perfect with a bikini (rather than a kaftan) for playing frisbee.

5)  A lovely Fat Face jacket.  I think the colour is beautiful, other than the dirt it might pick up.  I hate the dilemma, in summer or winter, in being freezing and wearing a massive coat, walking, sweating, stripping and carrying the massive coat.  Nightmare.  Fingers crossed this would rectify that.

6)  Lovely Ripcurl top.  This is the kind of thing I would buy in XXXXXXXL and wear over a bikini, beaut.

I heart Cornwall.

What Happened In May

So a couple of weeks ago I posted about what had happened in May so far, me thinking that a plethora of things would happen between then and now, but alas, I was wrong.  A heatwave happened.  And with heatwaves come BBQs, bikinis and beer.  Nothing to complain about mind you, just not much to blog about.  So here’s a snappy round up of the second half of may.

1)  BBQ Season!  Here’s a photo of me looking pretty unimpressed caught off guard with my king prawn skewers.  Absolutely delicious.  Chop up two or three cloves of garlic and melt up about a quarter of a tub of butter in a sauce pan then stir together and pour over king prawns in a bowl.  Make sure that all the prawns are coated in the garlic butter marinade and pop in the fridge for an hour.  Then stick them on some skewers and BBQ them for ten to fifteen minutes.  Perfect.  I’m wearing crop bandeau from New Look and maxi skirt from BooHoo.

2)  And exams have ended!  Which means plenty of wild nights out and about, including those where you carry chairs back at three in the morning.  Standard student fun.

3)  Sorry for being soppy, but I kind of love this picture of me and the boy.  I’m wearing a TK Maxx dress and his shirt is from Topman.  This weekend we’re celebrating our 18 month anniversary (all together now, awwwwwwwww) by road tripping to Newquay for surfing and the Diamond Jubilee.  Going to be lush!

4)  More cooking!  I don’t know what’s come over me.  Here is a homemade pizza that I  produced as procrastination one day.  From scratch!  We made the dough (with a pre mix pack but come on!), added mozzarella and pizza sauce, chorizo, salami and olives.  And did I mention the cheese string stuffed crust?!  Delicious.

5)  With procrastination, has come the arrival of a new card game; S***Head.  Don’t ask me why it’s called that, I really don’t know.  All I know is that it’s one of the most fun card games I have ever played and we play it pretty much all the time.  Google it.

6)  And this pic is just another garden shot.  Story of our freaking lives.

Loughborough 2012

Apologies of my lack of blogging of late, I have been a busy bee!  The weekend took me to Loughborough, where we (the dance squads of the University of Southampton in street (that’s me!), jazz, contemporary and ballet) went to the Uni there and competed against 15 or so other Uni’s for the knowledge of knowing we were the best.  The weekend went a little something like this:

We stayed in a beautiful Hilton hotel up in Loughborough near the East Midlands Airport.  After a four hour road trip consisting of realizing my seat belts don’t work, that Brunton isn’t very good with a full car load and freaking out at people taking pictures thinking they were speed cameras … oh, and getting lost for a full hour, we made it.  I shared a room with my friend Joyce from dance which was lovely.  The Friday afternoon we got there we took a casual dip in the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi the works … absolute bliss.  After attempting a little bit of a work I gave it to the fact I was having a weekend away and just relaxed and for a full two hours for the first time in I don’t know how long, I just sat and did nothing.  Well, I read Glamour, had a few glasses of wine and watched E4, but it felt like nothing.  No freaking out about work, no cleaning my forever messy room, no yelling at the boyfriend for eating in bed.  Just pure relaxation.  Bliss.

So after a few more glasses of wine with the gang, an absolutely beautiful sleep considering it was a 6am wake up, the day of the competition dawned!  The top picture is of the stadium, it was amazing.  I knew Loughborough was a sports uni but this was something else.  It was so American, with music and bleachers and fast food and mexican waves, such a great atmosphere.  The second picture is of our street dance squad, invasion.  I’m on the left.  Before the weekend, I knew everybody, but now I feel like I can consider them to be friends which is lovely.  I can’t wait for all the stuff we’ve yet to accomplish.  The final picture is an action shot, with me on the left.  Not very flattering, but I wanted you all to see what it’s like!

So then came the after party!  Top picture is me on left and my dance buddies Megan and Steph.  (I’m wearing a TK Maxx Lady Gaga style lace top under my competition shirt, Topshop shorts and a Longchamp bag)  Second picture is us out on the town!  I say town, actually their students union, which was amazing!  Loughborough is very much a campus uni, so their union is pretty much the centre to their nightlife.  There were about ten bars, three dance areas etc.  Awesome.  So after downing a few gins it was results time and BOOM, SOUTHAMPTON CAME FIRST!  Only in ballet though.  We didn’t place in anything except third in Jazz (I think) and first in ballet, but wait for it … SOUTHAMPTON BALLET WON THE BEST DANCE OF THE OVERALL COMPETITION!  It was amazing!  Never before have I felt such pride of really feeling and being part of the Uni, it was so great!  I didn’t really mind that we didn’t place.  Yeah we worked super hard, yeah we spent hours training, and yeah I cried over it … but the whole weekend was just so great and performing was so amazing that it didn’t really matter in the end.  Oh, and the last picture just shows you how a dancer’s night out gets.  Standard.

So that was Loughborough.  It was an amazing weekend.  Bring on 2013!

The Dream Summer

Everywhere you look, people seem to be having ‘The Dream Summer’, all year round.  You simply have to turn on your TV screens to be bombarded with American and British TV shows alike, each portraying bikini clad women, crazy festivals, lying in meadows, drinking to dizziness; each to their owns version of the dream summer.

What’s your dream summer?  Have you had a dream summer?  Or is it just hype?  It’s at this time of year the statuses begin to change.  ‘Bring on Summer 2010 Baby!’, ‘Malia 10!’ or ‘Road Trip 10’.  All sound amazing.  But are they?  People have such high expectations of summer, falling in love, running around in fields of gold, skinny dipping, being crazy – I wonder, does it all happen in just one dream summer?

I’ve never had THE Dream Summer.  But I’ve had many extraordinary summer experiences.  Road tripping across Canada, surf school in Barbados, backpacking around Thailand, lots and lots of camping, not to mention my first all girls holiday to Zante.  All of these have been such amazing experiences, but within the whole period of ‘Summer’, things have gone wrong, they always do, thus destroying THE Dream Summer.

I’m still waiting for my dream summer, hey, perhaps I’ll be able to blog in a few months time and say I’ve safely had THE Dream Summer.  Who knows?  My 4 months away from education have a trip to New York on Independence Day, stupid amounts of camping, V Festival and a girly road trip lined up.  Plus a whole load of day trips and weekends away – I’m sure it’ll be pretty incredible.

Everyone has a different version, a different mindset of what their dream summer would be like, has been like.  I’ll let you know if I ever reach mine ;)
