May Verbs

I’m seriously late in the game.  Again.  Well, crisp and clear apologies and onwards and upwards we go.  May has mostly been spent toodling around Paris followed by a swift return of the double Ds (dance and dissertation, don’t you know).  Here’s what I got up to this May:

Watching: Orange is the New Black

Another Netflix cracker.  Different though, because this series has been made and produced exclusively for Netflix (i.e. the show never has, and never will be on regular TV).  Which I like, makes it kinda exclusive.  It basically involves a lot of crazy women running around prison getting up to prison antics.  Its dark, sarcastic and very very funny.  Definitely worth a watch.  (Plus, Season 2 came out yesterday!)

Reading: Literature

Nothing too exciting kids, just about 100 journal articles and 50 books, all working towards my Literature Review for my dissertation.  #MastersLife

Listening To: Regina Spektor

So this is connected to my watch: Orange is the New Black.  The titles include Regina Spektor’s ‘You’ve Got Time’ and since then I’ve been hooked, all over again on her.  My 2009 phase loved Regina and the likes of Imogen Heap, and they’re well and truly back in force.

Wearing on my body: Primark PJs

It got to that point in life where you look in your pyjama draw and just think ‘its time for a clear out’.  You know the feeling.  So off I toddled to Primark and got 4 beaut colourful and comfy sets of summer PJs for just £5 each.  I work from home a lot, unashamedly in my PJs, so I was basically investing in work wear.  Sure.

Pit of hell or entrance to heaven? You decide.

Wearing on my face: Benefit High Beam highlighter

The dance world has taught me a few of life’s great make-up lessons, one of which is contouring.  Benefit High Beam highlighter was made for this, and can really change the shape and angles of your face.  I use this highlighter just above and below bronzer to enhance my cheekbones, it also gives me a real glow.

Eating: Clean

This month, I’ve been attempting to eat clean (as the new craze would say).  I’m not in any drastic weight loss attempts, it’s just nice to have a colourful and healthy plate full of veggies that keeps me full and does wonders for my hair and skin.  It also makes me feel better about life when I have a Camembert craving.

Fruity Word-Art.

Drinking: Bootea

With my ‘eat clean’ and ‘Teatox’ it really looks like I am out on a healthkick?!  No.  Bootea is titled a ‘Teatox’ (they so clever) but has done nothing really of the sort for me.  It tastes mediocre, performs none of the detoxing effects it claims to and the teabag tab is too short.  The best thing about it is the packaging.

Not worth the hype, madness or money.

What did you get up to this May?

What Happened In May

So a couple of weeks ago I posted about what had happened in May so far, me thinking that a plethora of things would happen between then and now, but alas, I was wrong.  A heatwave happened.  And with heatwaves come BBQs, bikinis and beer.  Nothing to complain about mind you, just not much to blog about.  So here’s a snappy round up of the second half of may.

1)  BBQ Season!  Here’s a photo of me looking pretty unimpressed caught off guard with my king prawn skewers.  Absolutely delicious.  Chop up two or three cloves of garlic and melt up about a quarter of a tub of butter in a sauce pan then stir together and pour over king prawns in a bowl.  Make sure that all the prawns are coated in the garlic butter marinade and pop in the fridge for an hour.  Then stick them on some skewers and BBQ them for ten to fifteen minutes.  Perfect.  I’m wearing crop bandeau from New Look and maxi skirt from BooHoo.

2)  And exams have ended!  Which means plenty of wild nights out and about, including those where you carry chairs back at three in the morning.  Standard student fun.

3)  Sorry for being soppy, but I kind of love this picture of me and the boy.  I’m wearing a TK Maxx dress and his shirt is from Topman.  This weekend we’re celebrating our 18 month anniversary (all together now, awwwwwwwww) by road tripping to Newquay for surfing and the Diamond Jubilee.  Going to be lush!

4)  More cooking!  I don’t know what’s come over me.  Here is a homemade pizza that I  produced as procrastination one day.  From scratch!  We made the dough (with a pre mix pack but come on!), added mozzarella and pizza sauce, chorizo, salami and olives.  And did I mention the cheese string stuffed crust?!  Delicious.

5)  With procrastination, has come the arrival of a new card game; S***Head.  Don’t ask me why it’s called that, I really don’t know.  All I know is that it’s one of the most fun card games I have ever played and we play it pretty much all the time.  Google it.

6)  And this pic is just another garden shot.  Story of our freaking lives.

What’s Happened In May … So Far!

Basically, May has been SUCH a hectic month, it always it.  The sun is just beginning to show its gorgeous face, exams are looming, there’s far too much work to be done … thus the inevitable need for distraction and fun!

1)  We went to Thorpe Park!  It was very weird actually, we drove down for the day in the cold, wet and wind and seeing as Thorpe Park is very close to my home, it was very bizarre to drive all that way and not actually go home.  Here shows Emily (being the most sensibly dressed out of us all wearing proper waterproof hiking gear), Eimear (in her famous Southampton Scarf who she supports to the death), Jamie (in wellies, a very good idea) and myself (in Dorothy Perkins denim jacket (WHY did I think that was a good idea?!), Topshop dress, Florence and Fred jeggings (again, WHY?!) and Reebok trainers (and what?!)).  It was an amazing day, especially seeing as Eimear had never been before.  Because the weather was so awful there was barely anyone there, meaning we got on every ride in about ten minutes, amaze!

2)  Draw Something!  I’ve recently discovered this Android App, and its amazing!  Basically, the idea is that its quite like Pictionary, you draw something for someone and they draw something back and you gain points to buy more colours and words … simples!

3)  STA Travel!  For those of you who don’t know, the boyfriend and I have booked to go backpacking around Thailand for a month (where I will TRY and blog but I have no idea how successful I will be), meaning countless trips in and out of STA Travel in Southampton, in fact we’ve got another one tomorrow.  I just love it in there.  Everyone that works there is so cool and friendly and has been to millions of places and just done the most amazing things, I want to be in their gang!  If you’ve ever booking a far flung hol, I would absolutely recommend it.

4)  My beautiful new Cath Kidston bag :)  I had quite a bit of money from my Birthday left over and was desperate for this bag in the white with the spring colour flowers, but alas, it had sold out EVERYWHERE.  So after many hours or scouring the internet high and low, I found the brown version which I still absolutely LOVE.  A Summer and Winter bag, that’s waterproof and won’t get dirty.  Score.

5)  Now, to any chefs out there, do you remember that rush, that satisfaction the first time you cooked a proper meal, and it was delicious and people enjoyed it?  I experienced that for the first time this May Bank Holiday.  After a failed attempt to go to a Boot Fair (that had already closed by the time we got there, at 10.30am pffftttt), we decided to have a quick Tesco run and whilst in there, I was struck by inspiration.  May Day Bank Holiday = Roast Dinner, and so the quest began.  After four hours running around our absolutely tiny kitchen that I share with 8 others, yelling profanities having filled up every single hob and oven shelf much to the annoyance of the housies, I did it.  And it was incredible.

6)  Southampton in the sun!  After 18 months of living here, I walked to town for the first time and it was delightful.  Normally I get the bus or drive but in the sun I thought, hey, let’s walk.  And it was lovely, sun and Southampton = perfect combo.

7)  I’ve officially handed in all of my Second Year Coursework – hurrah!  So inevitably this called for a 10.30am trip to the pub to drink pints and play pool, and not leave all day.  Lush.

8)  And this weekend, the weather was so divine and the boyfriend and I were getting so stressed out about work and exams we decided to just escape and head off to the New Forest for the day, which was absolutely beautiful.  We found a few villages and bought lots of ice cream, got scared by lots of horses before we found a clearing where we played cards, played frisbee and got burnt.  Bliss.
