What Happened In September

Way back when in 2012, I did a series of posts titled ‘What Happened In’, then said month, to give you all a monthly life roundup.  As life as got hectic once again, I thought I’d provide you with another, so hello to, What Happened in September.

My month started off in the Isle of Man (which I wrote about here: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/oh-hey/).  As usual, I had a beautiful time there and am really excited about spending Christmas there this year (Boyfriend and I are official grownups now, we alternate).  I just love the peace and serenity of the countryside.  Despite having a few on-going internal tensions between rural and urban love and lifestyle, this September, I loved it.

I also headed back to Dance which you can read about in the above post.  I’m absolutely loving it!  Dance is my thing, if you know what I mean.  I’ve always done it, and always loved it.  At the risk of sounding a cross between Darcey Bussell and Louis Spence, I’m so passionate about the way a body can interact and flow with (or without as the case may be) music.  Monday nights are now dance nights.  My go-to nights of hard work, passion and (the next day, usually) pain.  And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

September also took me Glamping, which you can read all about here: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/glamping/

As I wrote about in my post titled about September Syndrome: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/september-syndrome/, September can bring around huge changes for people, as they have for me.  This month, I’ve gone through a huge life change .. I’ve started a Postgraduate Masters course at University.  I’ve had Induction Week and two weeks of Lectures.  It’s full of big changes; a commute, new buildings to get the hang of, London prices, new people, harder material .. but I honestly think doing this Masters might be the best decision I have ever made.

3 years ago I wrote about my Geography A Level exam: https://bellasbits.wordpress.com/2010/06/20/make-me-or-break-me/  I’m making my dreams come true.  I’ve fallen in love with the life I have, the life I’m living, the life I’ve always wanted.  What are you doing this October?

Insta an Hour

Well hey there!  I’m back!  Now the double Ds are over, I am slowly starting to feel like my old self again and with that comes the rise from the ashes of Bella and her Bits.  I’d seen a few features on other blogs back in January on ‘A Photo an Hour’, but wasn’t sure if it would look funny or not dragging my camera around campus all day, so I settled for Insta an Hour!  I thought that it was a great way for me to get back into blogging, and to show you what I’m doing all day!  I set my phone alarm every hour, on the hour, then wherever I was whacked out my phone and took a snap.  It’s not particularly exciting and luxurious, but it’s studentdom, it’s my life!  Enjoy .. :)

This is what a standard morning looks like for me.  Porridge and coffee, complete with our oh-so-clean hob.  I did say studentdom!

So it was ever so slightly awkward when my alarm went off on the bus, and I was forced to take this snap, giggling on the inside pretending to be texting.  The guy opposite was NOT amused.

10am

This shows me well and truly camped out in the library, story of my life right now.  Complete with my beautiful Moleskine diary, coffee and my snazzy new laptop!

11am

I do love libraries.  Since working in one when I was 16, I just love them.  The smell, the colors of the books, the quiet .. I love it.  So I was secretly pleased when I popped to get a book out and the 11am alarm rang in my back pocket; perfection.

Midday came and I popped out for an appointment into the most beautiful sunshine of the year!  I enjoyed my lunch sat on a bench, soaking up some Vitamin D on campus.

1pm and 2pm

Back to the Library I headed, and didn’t move for a couple of hours.  Since finishing my Diss, I’ve started work on a new essay.  Just some light reading to accompany that, of course.

3pm and 4pm

Lecture time!  I actually had to disable my alarm for this one, and found it really awkward trying to take a pic with low lighting and a cautious lecturer, but here’s the snap anyway; trusty pukka pad in tow.

After a glorious stroll home in the sunshine, I was feeling pretty tired so laid down to watch a TV show.  Right now, I’m loving ‘Hotel Babylon’, a BBC series from a few years ago; I would recommend.  Here’s my gorgeous bedroom!

6pm

6pm came when I was just getting ready to head out, and boyfriend couldn’t resist popping into the background of the ‘Selfie’ shot.  I’m trying a new look here, of slightly slicked hair; still unsure if I like it or not.  I’m wearing 17 Coral lipstick and Barry M Jelly affect nail polish.  My jacket is from a market in Bangkok, Thailand.

7pm and 8pm

Pub time!  There’s a great local about 2 minutes from my house that serves 2 meals for £10 Mondays to Wednesdays when I can’t be bothered to cook.  Scrum-diddly-umptious.

9pm

Home and snuggled up on the sofa to watch ’16 Kids and Counting’, I’m utterly fascinated by it!  After a busy day – off to bed.

So that was my Insta an Hour day!  Hope you enjoyed ;)  Love, Bella x

SS/13 Lust List

Hello all!  Gosh, wasn’t the weather gorgeous today?  I found myself with a spring in my step needing my sunglasses.  It really got me in the mood for Spring and all the beautiful new bits and pieces that will grace the shelves of the top shops.  After my Mother and I’s jaunt around Harrods a couple of weeks ago, I really am having champagne dreams on a beer budget.  But it doesn’t matter!  The girl can dream :)  And here’s what I’m dreaming of ..!

SS LL1) Coast Amiana Maxi Skirt, Mole (from John Lewis) – £160

2)  M Missoni Bow Embellished Fine Knit Dress (from Harvey Nichols) – £399

3)  Chloe Floral Print Top (from Harrods) – £550

4)  Delhi Paisley Wool Stole (from East) – £50

5)  Legacy D Leather Tassel Mocassin (from Dune) – £59

6)  Light Denim Cassie Ripped Boyfriend Jeans (from River Island) – £45

The items I’ve picked are VERY much ‘Day’ items.  Things I could just pop on, walk to Uni in, have a lecture, cheeky pub lunch perhaps then hit the library.  Item 1 I put in small because I’m not completely sure about it.  I love wearing skirts and dresses, with tights in the Winter then providing my legs look alright, baring brave in Spring/Summer!  I looked around quite a few websites compiling this list, and couldn’t find a single skirt (for my body shape) I liked the look of!  Other than this, I do like the colour transition and the hippy floaty feel.

I absolutely LOVE Item 2, just beautiful.  Item 3 is gorgeous too, would look great with basically any plain bottoms.  Item 4 I love because it’s not too out of my price range.  This is the kind of item I might splash out on if I needed a treat, beautiful, goes with anything and long lasting.  I remember I used to have some mocassins like this way back when as school shoes, and I loved them!  I’ve looked for some since and haven’t been able to find any, so was very chuffed when I stumbled upon these.  They are so comfy, and again, go with anything.  And a good pair of jeans for a good new season.  Can’t go wrong.

What’s on your SS13 lust list?  Bella x

Explanation

I’m back! Well at least for now. Hitting Uni has left me with a lack of routine, structure and motivation for work. I knew it would be like this to an extent, but not like this! My life has changed so much. It is now 2011, I live in Southampton studying Geography at University, I have the most incredible friends in the world and a beautiful man in my life. It sounds poor, pathetic and uncommitted, but I simply haven’t had time to write. My days are filled with recovering from the night before, maybe an hour or two in a lecture, an afternoon nap before a quick pub stop then heading out again. Monotonous, perhaps, but not when you attend the most incredible, busy, liveliest pubs and clubs on the South Coast, see some of the most amazing live acts, and share it all with the most beautiful people you’ll ever know. I’m loving every second of it. 2010 Year of Culture did not fly out the window. I just didn’t write about it. I’ve visited Southampton galleries, a few museums, been up to London countless times, trekked it to Bristol for a weekend, not to mention all the gigs and music venues available round here! I’ve never been happier. I’ve never been more in love with my life. I know I’ve always said it, and always been content, but it’s true. After a whirlwind, soap opera like start to my new life (that I’m sure everybody has one way or another) I’m now settled with an incredible boyfriend, the most amazing friends who I’m sharing a house with next year and an absolutely fantastic social life. Things have never been better. It hasn’t all been perfect, it never is. I’ve missed home and my girls more than I ever thought I would and my Christmas was a bit of a nightmare with a family tragedy. All that complete with not seeing my Isle of Man man for 3 weeks did get on top of me. So it’s been a bit stressful, but all on the up now  I guess it’s growing up. For me, leaving home was never a chance to be who I wanted to be, because I’d already been doing that for so long. But I’ve seen so many people around me develop and grow into new, wonderful people and I’ve never been prouder and happier. I’ll try and blog more, I really will. But I needed you all to know I’m happy, I’m well and haven’t dropped off the face of the earth. How are all of you?
