Ascot 2014

This weekend marks the King George Weekend (A Modern British Classic) at the Ascot Racecourse near Windsor.  It also marks just over a month since I graced Ladies Day at Ascot with my beautiful girlfriends (from left to right: Georgie, Chaz, Myself, Shona and Becky).  Here’s what happened:

After a bright and early start we all met at Georgie’s house for the 30 minute taxi journey to Ascot.  As we were in the Silver Ring, we were allowed to take 1 bottle of sparkling wine/champagne/cava per person as well as a picnic taken in a cool bag or hamper. I settled on a bottle of Prosecco and a ladylike burger from a stand inside.  Here’s a snap of us before we all went in.  I’m the short one in the middle.  Whilst I contemplated wearing heels, I also figured there would be a lot of walking involved on the day, to and from the betting stations and the bar (of course).  So I bit the bullet and went for my fancy Dune sandals of 4 summers ago, and I’m so glad I did!  Sparkly feet and no foot pain whatsoever, winning.  Whilst I can’t remember where all the girls outfits are from (but if you’re interested, comment below and I’ll find out for you :)) my #OOTD is as follows:

Fascinator – British Heart Foundation Charity Shop

Dress – Planet at Debenhams

Watch – Vintage

Clutch – Florence and Fred

Sandals – Dune

Cheers!

Cheers!

After we found ourselves a patch of grass amongst the throng, we sat down to toast the day and drink our bubbles.

We’re all such busy ladies, so it was lovely to catch some sun, chill, chat, drink and giggle catching up.  People watching was beaut too!  (Also can we please acknowledge Georgie’s gorgeous hair?!)

As you can see, it was utterly crowded in the Silver Ring, but it was great because it added to the atmosphere in so many ways.  It was lovely seeing everyone dressed up and having a good time.  Just before the races started the Queen popped on by in her carriage, we didn’t see her, but had this pretty good view of the big screen!

Next the races started.  There were 6 in all, between 2.30pm and around 6pm with about 30/40 minutes between each, enough time to pop to the ladies, the bar, or make your bets.  We all got involved in the betting.  Whilst my Dad had very methodically selected 6 horses with the aid of the Racing Post, we all picked the horses we liked the names of!  I came away £25 up!  #Winning

After an AMAZING day we got our taxi home where we descended on Yates’ in all our finery to watch the England game, and we all know how that turned out!  Nevertheless we had a fantastic time, it was a great experience, and I’d really recommend Ascot to all!

Urban Outfitters Obsession

After a little break, blogging about other things and the like, I’m back on my personal Bella’s Bits challenge to do 14 posts I’ve assigned myself.  This is much easier now I have a stunning new camera, Brendan!  He’s gorgeous.  Blue and Canon like and ultimately stunning.  So here’s a teeny tiny peek into my winter wardrobe, Urban Outfitters style.  I’m well aware that the shots look like bad Ebay ones selling my clothes.  I’m still getting used to Brendan, lighting etc. and my bedroom at Uni is pretty dark.  Ah well, enough excuses!

My love for Urban Outfitters began when I was about 12/13 years old, WAY before it got popular.  About once a month all through school and college my Mum and I would pop up to Oxford Circus and trail around the flagship store for goodies.  My secret is to head to the sale, I don’t think I paid full price for any of these items.  I would say that well over a third of my wardrobe is U.O..  I don’t shop there as much anymore.  I don’t know if that’s because it’s become way more popular and I have the whole ‘don’t want to see anyone else wearing my stuff’ fear or just because I’ve grown up a bit.  When I say grown up a bit, I mean I don’t have the same desire I used to to buy, buy, buy.  I’m more than happy with what I’ve got and I think (at least I hope!) I have the creativity to make new looks with my existing clothes.  Anyway..!

Here goes:

Here are my beaut blue suede desert boots!  I love them to pieces and they’re SO comfy.  £20 down from £80 .. bargain!

More shoes!  Here are my, what I call, Victorian booties.  I’ve had these for about five years now and they’ve been sewn/stitched/reheeled/relaced more times that I care to believe.  These only really come out in the Winter and I can only really wear them with tights, cause they pinch a bit now due to all the reloving.  Still gorgeous though!

This is one of my most recent U.O. purchases.  A beaut of a cardigan I wear ALOT.  It’s huge but so versatile cause it can be just a cardy or act as a giant jumper.  Love.

Here are some dugarees I got in the vintage section of U.O. a few years ago, before they started to reform absolutely everything by adding studs or patchworks (I’m not bitter, honest.)  They’ve done me well.  I’ve partied at festivals in these, worn them as a cover up on holiday, and even added long sleeve tees and tights for winter.  All good.

And it’s not all casual wear!  Here is one of many playsuits/jumpsuits I own from U.O. but it’s my fav as it’s probably the most versatile. It is my LBD in playsuit form.  Black, silk, plain, gorgeous with a killer lacy back.  This is the kind of thing I throw on to go out when I’m not sure what else to wear.  Looks great with Keds or Heels!

So a teeny tiny peek into my U.O. Obsession.  Bear in mind I have jeans, jewellry, bunting, flasks, pictures, posters, tees, tasches from U.O., to photograph them all would take FAR too long!  Hope you’ve enjoyed your sneak peak.  Want to see more of my wardrobe?

Right kids, well I’m off to London for four nights.  So expect a travel post when I’m back.  Take care kids!

Party Life: Fashion

So, I think I intended to tell you about Southampton night life, but I’m going to leave that for the Southampton specific post.  Here’s some of my party life fashion moments.   I don’t know HOW many times you have seen this outfit, but this is seriously how fantastically versatile it is!  Top from Topshop, Culottes from Urban Outfitters – bish bash bosh!  This is a pretty standard summer clubbing outfit for me.  Something that doesn’t show too much leg, but that doesn’t need tights and will show off my waist.  FYI this was taken in Jesters, which I’m sure you will hear more about in the Southampton post.   So you can only see half this outfit, but it’s still a goodun.  The statement necklace is from East and the top is actually a full on body corset that I needed for dance, from Florence and Fred.  The high waisted shorts are TK Maxx.  Every single outfit I wear clubbing is with flats.  I would love to be able to wear heels, but I just can’t.  How can I do the worm in heels eh?!  Ah, a heels shot!  However, I did only wear the heels for pre-drinking to get me in the mood, then it was straight into flats before heading out the door.  The boob tube and the heels are New Look and the high waisted shorts are River Island.  High waisted shorts are pretty much a clubbing staple for me.  They’re comfortable, suck in your tum and mean you can do the worm without flashing your panties.  Win.

A slightly more official looking photo.  This was for a Dinner Dance for my Performing Arts Society at Uni.  The dress was a fiver in TK Maxx, the heels (I sat down ALL night, hurrah!) are Schuh and the blazer was borrowed from my housemate.  Boyfriend wears .. Topman.

Karaoke buzz!  This was for a night out in Carlisle which was just great fun.  The top is TK Maxx and the high waisted shorts (seeing a pattern here?!) are Topshop.

So there’s a quick round up of Party Life fashion – stay tuned to hear more about Soton nightlife!

Colourblind Reflection

If you’re reading this, stop.  Wait until the weather gets rubbish again and read it then.  I’m only writing this because I’m burning up in the delicious weather.  It’s been absolutely beautiful.  I’ve finished all my exams and have nothing to do except drink cider and sit in the sun all day.  So if you’re reading this, stop, go outside and read a book and get some sun on your face, and read it later when the sun goes down and the day is done.

I’ve been in a bikini the last few days, and as much as I love you all, won’t subject you to pictures of that!  Here’s what I wore a few days ago for afternoon tea with boyfriend’s Aunt and Uncle.  I got ready VERY quickly and as the title suggests, on reflection I was perhaps slightly colourblind in deciding what to wear!  But here it is anyway:

Cardigan – Urban Outfitters     Top – Asos     Jeans – TK Maxx     Shoes-New Look

A close up of my jeans and shoes.  I absolutely love these jeans.  SO comfy and different from standard skinnies.  And my new shoes!  These are actually heeled wedges but you can’t really see from this angle.  I’ve bought them for the two weddings I’ve got coming up over the next two weeks so have been wearing them out and about just to break them in.

A close up of my top half.

A close up of my face.  It’s only in this picture I’ve seen how much my purple dip dye has washed out, boo!  I’m wearing MAC foundation, Rimmel blusher, NO7 nude lipstick and MAC mascara.

Now get out in that sun!
