Camping OOTD

A few days ago, I wrote about how we upped sticks and drove away on a magical forest adventure.  Being in the middle of nowhere with dear friends, style really is (and should be!) at the bottom of the list.  Thought I’d entertain you with one of my wackier outfits worn throughout the weekend.  Enjoy!

Camping

A few weeks ago for boyfriend’s birthday, we upped suburbia and drove north to a beautiful forest somewhere near Leighton Buzzard for a wonderful weekend of camping with some dear friends.  Snaps and stories:

The forest was part owned by a few families, with one of the families being family friends of our buddies.  It was beautiful, very quiet and set back from the main road, with handmade clearings for us to pitch up.  Here’s our fire, before the rains came …

Fortunately, when the rains did arrive, our friends were clever enough to bring a giant sheet of tarpaulin accompanied by bungee hooks, meaning we could make and sit under our own little den when the heavens opened.  We had rugs, candles, incense, lanterns – we felt like pixies of the wood!

This beaut of a camping cooker came out of its box for the first time, specifically for this trip, and worked wonders for us!  Here’s one of our bog standard meals we whipped up – can’t go wrong with sausages and beans, especially when its chilly.  Other culinary wonders included bacon, eggs and burgers.  Oh, and soya milk, I’m now addicted to soya milk!

Having a digital detox means you have to find other ways to entertain yourself, one of those ways being games!  Here’s our scrabble board and Haribo inspired Texas Hold’em, completed with Blondie’s Greatest Hits blaring from our speakers – the dream!

Another highlight was a woodland walk we went on, well, through farmers lands and a golf course, but near woodland!  We found hay bales, rabbit holes, contemplated making nettle tea and hid from tractors.  So beautiful to be at one with nature.

So there you have it, our beautiful weekend camping.  I’d really encourage you to give it a go, leave behind life for a few days and go and sit in a forest with some good friends, a wine box and a campfire.  Let the good times flow.

Glamping

At the weekend, I went glamping.  Or rather, hashtag glamping as I feel it should be said.  Nestled deep in the depths of the Sussex countryside (we didn’t even find out the location until we booked) we went to EcoCampUK (http://www.ecocampuk.co.uk/), a completely off grid camspide where all we had to bring was food and bedding.  As a keen camper (every year since I was 9) this was an absolute walk in the park for me but for boyfriend, who hasn’t camped since Beavers, we decided on a glamping holiday to ease him into the outdoor lifestyle.

It was absolutely beautiful.  On the first night, giddy on love, laughter and too much wine we put our fire out and scuttled into the tent to play scrabble.  It was only hazily around 5am where I heard the pounding of rain on our bell tent I realised we had left ALL our firewood outside in the pouring rain.  The ultimate facepalm moment.  Undeterred, we just about managed to make a fire using the wood from the bottom of the bag and my ‘Ideal Home’ magazine (sob, hick, sob), but shortly after, packed it in and went to the pub.

We went for long country walks, read that book I’ve been meaning to for so long, had a digital detox, drank wine, mastered the game Triominos (it’s amazing!) and spent pure, quality time together as a couple where our only company was the distant mooing of cows (oh, and woodmice come sundown).  On our last night we had a lazy stroll around the adjacent farmyard field, looking up at the stars.  It always strikes me how incredibly bright, light, powerful and beautiful they are away from the hustle and bustle of the city suburbs.  My weekend was peaceful, contemplative and I’m home feeling utterly refreshed.
