200

Welcome to the 200th post of Bella’s Bits!  I quite like milestones like this, little as they may be.  It gives one a chance to quietly reflect on achievements.  For this, I’ll do as I did for 100 posts in the making and share with you some of my favourite pieces of writing and posts from the last couple of years.

Way back when in 2012, I wrote a couple of letters to my camera, which got an amazing response (view by clicking here).  One reader even told me I made them cry!  This was a piece of writing that was very much just me sitting down by myself and pouring out all my thoughts and emotions, albeit about a camera!  Fortunately, I found said camera a few days later and welcomed it back into my life with open arms here.

These last 100 posts have also seen my documents of various travels, along with #OOTDs to match.  You can read about Thailand, Australia, Cyprus and Paris by clicking.

Another post which had a good response was this one titled X Factor Humble Pie.  It involved my tipsy twitter ramblings whilst watching The X Factor a couple of years back, followed by sober reflections.  It speaks for itself really.

A couple of posts that I feel really showcase my style of writing include Social Media Madness and Bella Evening, the latter of which I almost titled ‘The Importance of Being Alone’.  I love this style of post, but I have to be in a certain kind of mood to write like this.  These just go to show how much life influences writing, and vice versa almost and how living and loving your life is the most important thing of all, and if that inspires writing, well it’s just a bonus really.

And finally, a post I’m most proud of is rather personal to me, 2013 an amazing year.  This was a rundown of all the accomplishments I’d achieved that year and even reading it now makes me swell with pride and emotion.  I believe that reflection is such a key part to progression and moving forward.  Sometimes, when you’re stuck in a rut or unsure of where life is headed, looking back can provide you with the motivation you need.  Being proud and happy of what you’ve achieved in the past can refocus your direction in life and remind yourself that you can do anything.  And that’s what this post did for me.

So a very happy 200 posts to Bella’s Bits, here’s to the next 200!

X Factor Humble Pie?

There’s something about family and friends coming together over a glass of wine or a beer in front of the TV on a Saturday night that makes Britain think they are judges.  Despite the fact that for the most part, we know absolutely nothing about the foxtrot or the samba, tone or pitch, or if and how she’s got her fake tan wrong; we love to think that we know it all, and further to that; have our say.  Whether this is through texting our friends, facebook statuses or twitter, Britain absolutely loves to have a good old bitch about what’s popping up on our TV screen.  And I’m no different.  Here’s what went down on my Twitter feed last night regarding ITV’s The X Factor:

I turned into a complete cow!  Who the hell do I think I am?  That being a blogger instantly makes my opinion worthy, that I am qualified to judge the voices, the appearance, the staging of these singers, these people?  It might have been the wine, but I didn’t half go off on one.  The thing is though, it’s not just me.  My entire Twitter feed was buzzing with bitchiness and brash comments about song choices, what whoever was wearing or a Judge’s comment.  Who do we think we are?!  Unless we are show business professionals, have sung on the X Factor ourselves or a have a Top 40 single,  we simply haven’t got a clue.  How would I feel if someone tweeted this way about me and my work?  Not too great, that’s for sure.  Whilst in the comfort of my own living room, I might yell and scream what I think at the TV, I think from now I’ll keep my tweeting to a minimum.  X Factor Humble Pie much?!

Back to Blogging

So it’s always Summer that leaves me for lack of blogging.  Mainly because I’m either working, travelling or being lazy and this summer in particular, it’s been a combination of all three.  So I’ve decided to set myself a challenge.  I’m gonna take the things I love writing about, make a list, and over the next few weeks, try and write about as much as I can, as often as I can.  I’m heading into third year at University which will be hectic, dramatic and crazy, and I find blogging to be SUCH a great release.  So here goes:

1)  Musical Palette

2)  Party Life

3)  Southampton

4)  Urban Outfitters Obsession

5)  What I’m Wearing Week

6)  Winter Wishlist

7)  Tour Of My Handbag

8)  Tour Of My Makeup Bag

9)  Charity Shop Tour

10)  Something On My Heart

11)  Travel Hopes and Dreams

12)  A TV Show I Love

13)  Movie Mayhem

14)  The Four Hour Body

So there’s 14 topics there, 14 days of blogging?  Pfft I don’t think so.  In the next two weeks I have to support boyfriend through his exams, go to Edinburgh for a holiday (I know right, HOW unfair?!) and do some serious studying.  So I will aim to blog where and when I can.  Also guys, any readers, please email me/message me/tweet me if you have any requests of things for me to write about :)  Love!

Ooooh – Cheeky Boom Boom!

Instagram Persuasion

So after a fair few months of ranting about how Instagram is just a tool to make everyone who’s not cool, appear cooler than they really are and will ever be, alas, I am a convert.  I whizzed back from Thailand to the new gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S3 phone and downloaded every app going, including Instagram.  Meh, can’t hurt giving it I try, I thought.  I’m hooked.  I’m a social media whore, I really am.  You name it, I have it, and I LOVE it.  Instagram included.  I won’t go as far as telling you all to download it, but I will flaunt my most recent snaps.

My gorgeous new phone, complete with new Aztec phone case (an absolute BARGAIN off Amazon – head there for any technology covers you might need) and frenchie nails, done myself I might add.  Oh, seeing as we’re here.  Use a white nail striper to paint the ends of your nail, it doesn’t need to be tidy or neat.  Next, take a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover and tidy up the white end shaping it to the shape of your nail.  A couple of coats of a very light pink and voila, frenchies!

What a momentous morning!  I casually come downstairs to make some scrambled eggs for breakfast and crack an egg and … two yolks!  Now what are the chances of that happening?  I was a little perturbed by the overwhelming yolk against the minor egg white so I thought I’d crack another one and BAM, another two yolks!  Now, what are the chances of that happening?!  I had no choice but to take a photo and tell everyone I met about it for the next week.

This is seriously one of my favourite hair styles.  I call it … The Donut Head.  You scrape all your hair into an obscenely high pony tail before putting a sponge donut (available from Boots, Claire’s Accessories, any hair and beauty store really) over the top of it.  Next you put your hair fully around the donut, making sure none of the sponge can be seen before securing it with a hair tie.  Back comb your hair for added volume.

This is my gorgeous new Minnie Mouse tee from Urban Outfitters complete with a necklace I haven’t taken off since Thailand, love it!

I couldn’t resist, more nail art!  Start with a base coat of any colour you fancy, before adding stunning stripes over the top, of any colour you fancy – easy really!

Tweeting Madness

I love Twitter.  Twitter is the reason I began blogging.  I first got Twitter at the end of 2009 and a few months later realised that I just had too much to say for 140 characters.  Nevertheless, being one of the first tweeters has set me in good stead because just now, and only now are facebookers jumping on the bandwagon.  I love Twitter.  I feel that you can be alot more honest on Twitter about who you are and what you are doing, because people who read Twitter are posting the same things, and actually care (hopefully).  So basically I love Twitter.  Here are some of my favourite tweets from myself over the last few months:

Twitter tells the truth about how dappy I can sometimes be.  It’s not all wine and travel.

Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do without Twitter during revision and exam time.  Fellow tweets about libraries, gauging eyes out and procrastination keep everyone going.  Somehow.

Now this is the kind of thing that I don’t know if I could post on Facebook.  I freaking love pop music, I would listen to Mcfly over Foster the People anyday.  For some reason, I feel like Facebook and the people on it wouldn’t get that.  Twitter, doesn’t care.

And that’s just standard Bella.

So basically I love Twitter.  If you don’t have it, you’re missing out!  Sign up today.  Follow me @bellasbits :)

Hello Beautiful

Hello Beautiful,

A few days ago, I wrote you a letter about how I’d lost you.  How I couldn’t find you anywhere and what it was doing to me.  I’m now ecstatic to say, I found you.  I rang my parents after I wrote to you and nearly cried down the phone.  Whilst other people might not understand, photography is such a huge part of my life and it was killing me not having it.  They were wonderful.  They found a new camera that I could afford for Thailand but I just didn’t feel right about it, I didn’t feel settled.  I lay down on my bed, I didn’t want to think about replacing you.  I’d looked long and hard around my bedroom to find you, but not as long and hard as boyfriend did.  In half an hour he’d found you.  One of my handbags that I keep on top of my wardrobes had a ripped lining from the inside pocket, so when you look inside it, you wouldn’t have been able to see it.  After a feel around and granted, ripping the lining more, boyfriend found you.  I was so happy.  I am so happy.  Reunited at last.  Hello Beautiful, I can’t wait for the new adventures we are yet to have.

All My Love,

Bella

Dear Camera

Dear Camera,

You are lost, you’ve been lost for a few months now and I’m slowly getting to breaking point.  I don’t want to replace you, but I feel I might have to.  It was a few months ago the morning after a night out that I was uploading photos and laughing about what a great night I’d had, I haven’t seen you since.  I don’t think you’ve been stolen from me, we’ve had burglars before who were very careful to take chargers with laptops and cameras and your charger is still where it always is, on my bookshelf, just waiting to be connected with you.  You’re not on my desk, you’re not in my important box or my man drawer.  You’re not under the bed and you’re not in any of my handbags.  I don’t want to give up, but I might have to.  I’m going travelling for a whole month soon and I won’t function without you, or a replacement of you.  I don’t want to buy a new one of you, I’ve been fine with my phone camera since I’ve lost you and was waiting until I move out of my house to see if I find you then, but now my phone has broken and I have no form of taking photos, and it’s really really hard.  So Camera, I’m sorry but I’m not going to wait for you, I just can’t.  I need a camera.  I need to take photos of things, items I buy, what I’m wearing, the boyfriend doing something cute, what I’m eating, my friends pulling stupid faces; I need to remember those moments forever and ever, and all the while you’re lost and I have no replacement of you, I can’t do that.  You’ve seen so many things.  You’ve seen so many smiles, laughs, crazy things, fun things; you’ve seen so much.  Maybe it’s time for another camera to experience and share my life with me, I’m sorry.  So I’m replacing you camera.  I’m sorry.  Take care, wherever you are.

All My Love,

Bella
